Hello! My name is Tom and I am a first year Chemistry undergraduate, studying at Van Mildert College, University of Durham. I am hugely passionate about Chemistry as a subject, and believe it is the central science, and it is absolutely key. I took Chemistry, Physics and Maths for my A-Levels and enjoyed each one. My style of teaching is relaxed and very non-judgemental; I realise that I was once in the position of the A-Level student and it was quite tough! Being a first year, I only sat my A-Levels about six months ago, so the knowledge of the new, more rigorous specification is very fresh in my mind. I measure progress via examples during tutorials (I will show you how to do something with all the steps, then I'll get you to do a similar question) and through a set exam question that will test what you have learned. You tell me which topic you'd like to do before the tutorial, and I will do my best to help you to understand it!

During Sixth Form, I was a Chemistry and Mathematics tutor to year 11 students preparing for their GCSE examinations. I have taught 1-on-1, and up to about 5-6 students in a tutorial. All of the students I tutored managed to reach their target grades. In the time I have been at Durham, I have taken part in the 1-to-1 tutoring initiative, in which we tutor students for an hour each week. The program is extremely successful at the moment.
