I have worked in schools across North Wales since April 2016 teaching history, literature, politics, geography, and many more! My classes have always been centred around interactive teaching methods; debating, asking and answering questions to stir up that curiosity for historical study, and dislodging that idea that history is a dull and difficult topic. It's important to spend time on the fine details such as spelling and grammar, but equally important is developing an argument fit for further education; how to engage with primary and secondary sources, considering the author, the social context in which it was written, and the underlying argument of the text. All key skills when approaching GCSE and above. I encourage my students to learn in a way they feel comfortable with and to not only enjoy engaging with the topic, but also ensure these critical thinking skills become part of their academic muscle memory.
